SNAKE - EEWWW

Remember a few weeks ago.. I started bike riding and eating healthier. Surprisingly I am still going at it. I have changed bike routes a few weeks back and now go a little later since it is just easier that way with 3 kids. Tonight's bike ride was a bit different. I ran into the above. Yes!!! A SNAKE!!! Not this exact snake or kind... but my neighbor friend Julie was riding with me as usual.. it was dark in the one area.. really dark.. but we have little headlights on our bikes. ha! Anyway, I noticed something ahead in the middle of the road. Being in Texas it is not surprising to pass a squirrel that didn't make it across in time and could have been several different animals that didn't make it.. snake was the last on my mind, and alive at that. I was heading straight towards it.. assuming it was a dead animal (not snake) I started to go around but then my little headlight hit it just right and I could see it clear as day!! A snake a snake!!! I yelled so loud, and probably not the smartest decision I stopped and turned (I was really close at this point) around and went as fast as I could. I obviously do not think fast when scared but my instinct was to turn around. My friend however did not notice it until it was too late and she continued. Neither of us were going to get that close again so we both continued and hoped to meet back up at home. I was so scared for my life tonight.. it is somewhat funny now, but was absolutely not at the moment. I realize I need to make better decisions with bike riding. The snake looked about the same size as the above and it was laying exactly like that. It could have been bad, thank God we both returned home safely. I think we will be thinking of a new route and go a little earlier for now on.

Ok, and I totally sound like there are dead animals on the road all the time.. it's not like that, but I know some of you Texans can totally relate.

  1. Yikes! I have never seen a snake like that in Indiana...but we do see a lot of the dead animals on the side of the road, so I completely understand that!

  3. Oh I hate, hate, hate snakes and I am absolutely terrified. I won't even watch if there is a snake on TV. I know it sounds funny but if I see a snake on TV before I go to bed, that night I will have nightmares that involve snakes!! I am glad you saw it in time to go around it though and you got home safely. Be careful riding not only because of animals but also crazy drivers out on the roads.

  5. I can totally relate. I hate snakes and we have them here. Luckily I have not come upon any poisonous ones (we have rattlesnakes), only bull snakes. But, poisonous or not, I don't want to run into them on the street. Yikes! Glad you got home.

  6. I can totally relate. We live in South Texas, and before our children are able to play outside we have to check the yard for rattlesnakes..Scary.

  9. Hi friend. I was totally craking up at your post!!! It was only 4 weeks ago that I was bitten by the copperhead, just 7 days before Abby Grace's brain surgery!!! I am SO thankful for two things: number 1, that it didn't bite Abby Grace b/c it was about 4 inches from her.....and number 2, that I just stepped on it, and never saw it coming. I think I would have died of a heart attack right on the spot. Don't get me wrong, once I saw that snake launching away from my foot, I don't know how I didn't just kill over right there......but I will tell you that it was the WORST pain I have ever been in, in my life!!! I am so glad you avoided all that craziness bc I swear my foot is NEVER going to be normal again, LOL!!!!!!! I am SO glad you didn't have to go through the trauma of getting bitten. It was traumatic for sure!!. Love you girl. Kiss your precious Bentley girl for me. (That's what we call her in our house, Bentley Girl!!)
