WE WANT...

There are no pets in this household... but that might change soon. Well, we are hoping so anyway. We have been wanting a dog for quite some time now. For months we have been thinking so hard about this and if we decide to get one which type of dog would be best for us. We have finally decided to go with a pug. Just look at that face.. need I say more? No really, not only are they super cute (to me anyway) I have read that they are amazing dogs. We have been searching long and hard since we have decided on which to go with and pugs are extremely expensive. The lowest I have seen them are 350.00 and that is even hard to come by... most in our area seem to be 400.00-600.00 and some even 800.00 WOWIE!! That's high for this small town Texas girl. While on the hunt we have come across so many breeders with websites (some not so great) and I cannot even tell you how many times I have been tempted to email and offer a website design for a pug (since they are about the same price)!! HA!! No seriously.. I have came close!!! Then I realize, okay they will laugh in my face, I better not!!! So what's the next best thing.. turn to my great blog friends for sources and thoughts.

Are any of you pug breeders?

Do any of you know any pug breeders?

Do any of you have a pug? If so, I would love to hear what you think about them!!

  1. I don't thiNK i have ever posted- so hi :)

Just a word on dogs and breeders :)

    1) stay away from any breeder who breeds more than one dog- might be a Back Yard Breeder (ie- not very responsible)

    2) while it is not IDEAL to pay more for a dog- it will pay off in the long run- usually a higher price is because the parents have been health tested (which costs the breeders a lot of money) and that will save you a lot of money in the future.

I don't personally know a lot about pugs (I am a Yorkshire Terrier owner) but there are just some general rules when it comes to buying dogs and I would hate for you to end up with a sick puppy.

Can't WAIT to see pictures of your new addition.

  2. I have an english bulldog- pugs are very similiar in their health problems. make sure you research your breader and don't buy from a "mill." if you get a healthy one your problems will be few and far between- if that doesn't work out boston terriers are good for house dogs with kiddos and are about the same size- (just not as wrinkly!!)

  5. Try searching for a pug rescue group. You would get your pug and the pug would get a home where it's loved. If you don't want to go that route, then you'll have to do your homework and find a truly reputable breeder and possibly pay more money than you want. Ask to see the mom AND dad. Ask to see the parents' pedigrees so you can check for inbreeding. Ask to see where the parents are kept, where the pups are kept, how many litters the mom has per year and over her lifetime. It's easy to see any pup and want it, but if you buy it from a "backyard breeder" who doesn't really care, you aren't really saving the pup, you are making space for more dogs who will end up needing homes.

  6. Hello from NC I found your blog recently and I wanted to tell you about Pugs. They are great. My mom has had 2 and Millie is her current one. She is great. She is very sweet and loves kids. Loves to sit with you and watch TV, read and take a nap. They do have problems breathing and some allergies, and do shed a lot but, are really great dogs. Email me if you have any other questions. Good look and I will be praying for your family.

  7. Im not a big fan of them. I think they are cute, but they just dont have that snuggle up to me and cuddle feel to them. My husbands favorite dogs though and his parents have had them all his life.

    Congrats...on your new family member.

  8. I've never had a pug, so I can't give you any info on them. But as a dog lover (and owner of 5), I wanted to let you know my favorite...mutts. Especially rescue mutts. Three of ours are rescue dogs, and we'll probably never 'buy' another dog, but adopt we'll adopt. They're great dogs (most of them of course) and SO thankful to be chosen to be part of a family. :)

Good luck finding your next 'child!' Dogs are GREAT!!

  9. Pugs are awfully cute, but in my personal experience, I have owned Mastiffs and they are so good around children, but I am very partial to them! We just had to put down our French Mastiff, Beau in March(like the Turner and Hooch dog-he was WONDERFUL with Emma). However, they are very big, so that would be a factor to consider. Right now, I have a pug/boston terrier mix(Bug) and we are looking for a new home for him. He has nipped at our daughter so we are afraid he will eventually bite her. I don't know much about pugs except that they snort(which I LOVE) and they are very cute. Can't wait to see what you pick! I agree with some previous comments-definately check out the rescue sites.

  13. Hi-
I have never posted to you but I just had to with this blog! I have two pugs with my husband. Cane will be 3 January and Lily will be 1 in January as well! They are the most loyal dogs in the world! They both never leave my side and are the best snugglers on the planet! The only negative is how much they shed. You will be swiffering everyday! Best of luck in your search for a pug :)

  14. I had a pug/beagle mix (puggle). She was the cutest and sweetest dog! I loved her, we had to give her away when I started working because I was never home, but i miss her so much. Pugs are great dogs, great choice!

  15. My sister has pugs. We love them. We call them little big dogs. The lay around and cuddle like big dogs but are little and portable like a little dog. They do snore though :)

  17. I know I'm a little late in commenting, but I now own 2 pugs. We have always had big dogs, but our son really wanted a Pug. We got one a year ago and adore him. We just recently adopted another one, he is just as wonderful as the first. I suggest you look up "pug meet-ups" in your area, that is where a lot of "puggy" people gather and I found someone looking for a good home for their pug.
    blessings,
    Debbie E.
