WORKOUT

We have had so much fun lately. Sunday we all played outside for hours as a family.. with the exception of taking turns inside with Bentley. It hasn't stopped ever since. Playing all day every day has really opened my eyes and has shown me just how out of shape I am. I have always been so athletic and I have always enjoyed working out and doing sporty things myself. BUT once you have kids, all the time for yourself seems to disappear. I cannot tell you how many times I have tried to "diet" or "work out" all to quit within days. Then it's always.. "I'll start tomorrow.." over and over and over. Then wow, you wake up and see who you have become. Again, I'm talking about me. Since this super fun active weekend.. I know now that I am more ready than ever to do this. Yesterday I started eating healthy and working out... my form of working out (this time) is bike riding. I love riding bikes.. great workout and my focus is not on working out it is on enjoying outside, nature, etc. so I really don't notice how hard and long I am working out for. I know it's only been 2 days, but so far so good. I of course have not seen change yet within me.. but I do on the scale. And that also helps encourage me to keep going. So right now, I am really excited!

Are you dieting? Working out? What are you doing or what have you done that works? I would love to hear your stories/experiences...

  2. Thanks for your comment earlier on my blog....you are so sweet :)

Good luck on working out. I have never really been athletic, but the last few weeks I can tell I feel different and really need to get more active. I like riding my bike too. We got one of those little trailers you can hook to the back and pull the kids in and they love it.

  3. I'm there with ya, girl! Last time I worked out was a little over two years ago when I pregnant with Charlie. Of all times, I started again for the first time this week, doing prenatal Yoga. It's kicking my butt but I can tell that the stretching, stamina and breathing exercises will make a difference during labor. I'm not much of a dieter (never have been, I love my food!) but I DO eat in moderation and never binge. I guess my body never allowed me to do that in the first place because I would gag the minute I tried to shove in another forkful...as delicious as the food was.

After baby I'm planning on doing the 30 day Shred and then continue doing Yoga and Pilates, which I swear by. Pilates can do miracles to your body, I HIGHLY reccomend it.

  4. Hi Crystal

I walk everyday with our dog Bella. I also do pilates twice a week and my new favorite work out that I do twice a week is Zumba. It is fun and a great workout!

  5. Hey Crystal. Great to hear about you being able to spend some time outside playing with the kids. It has been TOOOOO hot here with temps 105-107. YUCK!

Earlier this spring I joined www.sparkpeople.com. It is a free online diet and fitness plan. I managed to lose 14 lbs in about 6 weeks with portion control and minimal exercise (a little everyday like 20 min of walking or climbing the stairs 2 times-very little). I am an emotional eater so it was hard to switch from eating when stressed or bored to eating when truely hungry. I also measured each thing that I ate and actually looked at serving sizes. I ate fast food, had cake and ice cream at parties, and didn't deprive myself of anything. You should go check it out. I found it really helpful. GOOD LUCK!

(I didn't get paid for anything that I have said about sparkpeople. I just used it and it worked and like to tell people about it if they want diet/fitness tips.)

  6. Too funny! I am the exact same way and then I convince myself that it is ok to have 1...ok, 2 cookies..I'll just start tomorrow. This happens often. I have asked for a bike for Christmas this year, I too think bike riding would be so enjoyable. We live by the Chattahoochie River and there are trails for days to ride your bike so I am super excited. Until I get a bike, I am walking 2-3 days a week with my co worker and hoping each day that "today is the day" I will follow a strict diet!! Wish me luck as I wish you luck too. Swimming is also a good source of exercise and it is enjoyable as well.

  7. I need to diet very badly....I go off and on though. Good days and bad..more bad than good lately though. I need to get back on track. It's hard in the summer when kids are home.

I don't do gyms though...I want a treadmill but haven't found one that I want to pay for yet.

  8. I wish I could say that I exercise and eat right. Does chasing an 18 month around count as exercise. Because I am exhausted after chasing him!!! LOL But I love it!!!!

  9. ugh, i hate the word! diet {shudder} exercise {shudder}. we don't have kids, and i will admit that i don't actually gain weight easily (which is a good thing) but hubs struggles with it and my family has a history of weight problems that start once they have kids, so i know it's coming.
we ride bikes (when it's not 110 degrees out) and we try and eat healthy, but lets face it... it's more expensive and take way more time to make something healthy than to open a can, box, jar, or pull something out of the freezer. and while we're being honest... i just really enjoy choc, ice cream, and everything else i should have.

so moral of the story is... i need to come to your house, cause mine is NOT WORKING! :)

  10. That is so neat how Brenna came to be Brenna! We have a similar story about how we came up with our girl name. My aunt had a little girl with HLHS she was a longed for child and they'd tried many years to have Olivia. Sadly they didn't know then what they know now and she went to heaven. We changed the o to an A and added an H. My aunt loves the idea, she said she felt honored.

I love bikes, swimming and walking my dog. I also love the cookbook "cook yourself thin". I have PCOS which causes problems with my weight no matter what I do its also one of the reasons we've been ttc for 3 years without luck.

  11. I highly recommend Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred...it's awesome!!! And, I can do a GOOD workout during the baby's nap. Each workout takes 25 minutes and KICKS YOUR BUTT!

Now for food...haven't figured it out yet. Love to eat :)

  12. I know exactly where you are coming from. Being a new Mom myself, I say everyday that I am going to get back to the gym and lose the last 12lbs. of the 37lbs. I gained while pregnant. After having the twins, I told myself that I was going to lose every bit of it before they turned 6 months old. I have 2 months left and I am really struggling to get motivated. I, like you, before kids, loved to work out..took care of myself and now with the twins, I do nothing for myself. Girl I have a hard time getting a mani and pedi these days. ;0) But reading your new found energy is giving me some energy again. In the past, watching my processed carb intake has always worked best for me. After talking to a few friends that eat healthy and stay really fit, their goal has always been to grocery shop on the outside aisles of the store and stay out of the middle aisles. All fresh fruit, veggies and meat. Makes sense I think. So, that is my new goal...I'll let you know how my first shopping trip goes this weekend. Good luck and bike ride for me too!
